Fuji f30

I have just purchased fuji f30 as my 2nd p&s for over a week. The purchase completed part of my quest for the next camera. And here are few test shots in low lighting without flash taken in Yahoo Year End party

And the Friday visit to Yahoo Mission College campus in Santa Clara.

While I am pleased with the low light capability of the camera, I am still struggling with fuji f30 in many aspects as a new user with perhaps the wrong expectations on the camera.

Macau is my home town and all these photos bring special memories as I grew up in this small place about 50 minutes ferry ride distance away from Hong Kong. Macau used to be a Portuguese colony until 1999 and it is now part of China.

My next camera

This is my current beloved and trusty Casio ex-z750 and I had it since early 2005. Like many others, I still think it is the best compact camera back in 2005 for both picture and video. It is odd how I miss it everyday when I leave home without it. My wife takes great pictures and videos for our kids at home and many of her work are posted here in this blog. And I will take away her photo and video opportunity if I have it with me leaving home.

So here comes my next camera dilemma: I want another point and shoot while I am also on the prospect of venturing into dSLR and perhaps prosumer type of camera. So far I have boiled down to few choices:

If I get another p&s, I will definitely enjoy the casual shooting everyday with the portability and flexibility in a p&s. But if I go prosumer and dSLR, I will definitely advance in the hobby going into a different level of experience with photography. The caveat is the time split (or shared) between hobby and family. What is stopping me from having fun -- Time and Money.

Update: I have purchased Fuji f30 as my 2nd p&s camera. Test shots of fuji f30 can be seen in Fuji f30 Test Shots. And I have purchased Pentax K100D with kit lens and Pentax DA 50-200.

My Favorite Fuji F30

Picture taken with Pentax K100D and DA 50-200

It is this combination of Fuji F30 and Joby Gorillapod that produces the banner of this photo blog. The banner picture is one of my favorite pictures done in Fuji F30. My thoughts on F30 will be in Hin's Tech Corner as soon as I find the time to share with others.

Thursday Challenge -- Autumn Colors

Olive Festival taken with Fuji F30Thursday Challenge

I took this shot with Fuji F30 last year during Olive Festival in Fremont last year. Time goes very fast and it has been a year that I have owned Fuji F30 and I still have not managed to finish the blog post on my thoughts on Fuji F30. It is a great point & shoot camera for taking snapshots and a perfect compliment to digital SLR types of camera.

About

Why this Blog
Unlike my Hin's Tech Corner where I document my journey form p&s to dSLR and things that I have learned along the path in digital photography, this blog is my personal journal. All writings, photographs, and videos are my digital capture of special memories. This blog is a display of my love in photography and my family and you will certainly see my two lovely children and occasionally my beautiful wife in the blog. I love my family and part of the reason in starting this blog is to capture the special memories that I have with them in our daily lives. There are the negative moments in my daily struggles but hopefully my positive postings will overshadow those negative moments and make them unnoticed.

Camera gear

Digital Passions
My digital passions started around Halloween time of 2006 with my Casio when I was visiting mall with my family. That was about the same time that I started this Tech Corner blog. Later I became more interested in digital photography that I upgraded with 2nd p&s in Fuji F30 and I have subsequently upgraded with Pentax K100D and my lens assembly are on the inexpensive side.

Why Advertisement
I started this photo blog with intention to join the Yahoo Publishing Network (YPN) as I have been working for Yahoo as a software engineer in Data Warehouse and Yahoo Search that are related to advertisement. TechTheMan and HinTheMan are essentially my means to reinvent my interests into my work area. Believe it or not, I actually got rejected from YPN and I have turned around and use Google AdSense instead. Unlike my Tech Corner blog, I limit all advertisement to text base and have them as least intrusive as I can arrange them in this personal journal.

Subscription & Search
You are very welcome to subscribe to my blog page through the Subscribe section on sidebar.

In blog's sidebar titled "blog search" section, you can enter a keyword such as Picasa, Pentax, Fuji or Casio to search contents within the blog. A google web search is also available in sidebar after the Subscribe section.

How you can help
Blogging is both fun and time consuming.
As of the writing of this blog, there is little at all in terms of financial rewards through advertisement as a publisher. Having an audience whom I can share my learning and my pictures give me the most satisfaction. This blog is a journal of my learning path with digital photography. You can help me greatly by leaving comments in blog post for sharing, encouragement and corrections when necessary. Your comments and feedbacks are highly appreciated. It is priceless in the knowledge gained through studies, research, writing and sharing with you all in this blog.

Photohunt -- Practical

CRV with Pentax DA 50-100photohunt logo
I never thought that I would drive a white car, but that was the only interesting Honda CRV left in the dealer lot when I shopped for a car in 2005. And I have been loving it ever since. It is a very practical car for driving a small family with lots of cargo space. I drove my friend to SFO airport with 4 adults and 1 kid and with 3 large and 2 small bags of luggage and my CRV handles it with ease. I just wish it has better gas mileage like a hybrid and it will be even more practical for the environment. And my white CRV coincidentally matches color with my other white beauty -- my home.

Sky Color with Fuji F30

I saw amazing color on my way home yesterday and I have my Fuji F30 in my backpack. That is the beauty of having a digital camera. Every single scene can be captured and it is matter of time to pause for a moment to enjoy the beauty around us even in a gas station.

Pretty Sky with Fuji F30

I have this photo sitting for about 2 months in my Fuji F30. Once I put some retouching in Picasa. The light blue sky comes out very pretty and unique. I wish to go back to that park next spring near Highway 84 and Ardenwood in Fremont.

I have a difficult time finding a nice picture on smelly theme for photohunt, I hope Ben's baby foot picture will do. The photo can be deceptive as Ben really has baby feet and he always smells charming in my heart.
