I manage to find an original picture not post processed by Picasa. Now that I get used to organizing and do simple retouching with Picasa, I sometime don't even remember which pictures are original photo straight out from my camera. This is my first post participating photohunt with this weekly theme set for 'original'.

Stop The Verbal Abuse -- Bloggers Unite on 9/27/2007

BlogCatalog - Blogging For a Great CauseI am a day late for blogging about the meaningful bloggers unite event happening yesterday on 9/27/2007. I want to put a post about verbal abuse as they affect the relationships with close ones and the people we bump into. There are times that even the calmest of us will have used the abusive words when we run short on times or we are frustrated with what run against our ways in our daily routines as simple as in driving or waiting in line in a store checkout line. We use abusive words in many ways of manifestation of our emotional outburst.

More often than not, I overreact to negative emotions and stresses that I have no control of. I once saw a great article about 90/10 rule that 90% of our misery actually comes from our overreactions to the 10% of incidents that we have absolutely no control of, say the traffic jam or the needed attention of our crying children. Why sweat for that small percentage incidents that we can't
control. Next time around when people cut in front of us in traffic, let us say 'good for him or her' as he or she can get to work earlier. Yeah, right! At least, we do our part not to trigger our emotions into the wrong direction for the day. Why bring in unnecessary stresses in our daily routines, let's all be lighten up for the important.

I for one have to stop all the abusive wo
rds that I have at home. Yes, I do have frustrations at home when I lack sleep and my two boys and my very tiring wife wants the attention from me. I have to yield to their needs and lighten up with positive and praising words. I have way too many thoughts in my life that translate into negative abusive words. And I am tired of the negative words that seem so natural in me. I am here to share this blog post to remind myself and others to use positive words and stop any negative wordings that can become abusive to others especially to our close and loved ones.

Not that I am a big fan of Jack In The Box, I took this shot for a personal reason going back in time to my past and the beginning career as a software engineer. My first job while in college was in a small software company, Horstmann Software Design Corp., which at one time was located in downtown of San Jose next to a Jack In The Box.

It was the good old time that I worked as a student of Dr. Cay Horstmann along with my best friends and classmates in College in Dr. Hortsmann's privately owned software company selling ChiWriter, a scientific word processor, and I am proud to be one of the few core engineers. I am a person of the past and this picture surely reminds me of the good old time working in the upper floor of a 2 story Victorian house next to a Jack In The Box and I missed all the laughters and late night works along with my best friends and buddies with Bing, Nhi, Jenny, Raymond, and many good old friends including my first boss and my best college professor with Dr. Cay Horstmann. I miss all of my buddies in college time as well as the smell from Jack In The Box. It was in that Victorian house office that I got my first full time job after college and my US Permanent Residence.
I thought of friends and co-workers that I have not had a chance to get acquainted over the years after Horstmann Software -- Calvin, Felix, Anny, Beneta, Christina and her brother and sister, April, May, Hong, Lei Hong, Michael, Tony, Peter, Margaret, Lucinda, Tracy, Max (Jochen Weiss), Hugh, Keith, Josie, Cynthia, Kwan, and perhaps few other names that I have missed unintentionally.

Surely I can smell the cheese burger in that late night picture of Jack In The Box. And it reminds me of my hours leaving work for school and home. This post is dedicated to all of my buddies and best friends in Horstmann Software.

Inhaler

All pictures taken with Pentax FA 50 f/1.4

I have been troubled all week deciding if I want to upload pictures that I normally don't want to talk about. I make the decision to post some of Ben's pictures while taking his daily preventive medicine for his asthma problems. Ever since his first visit to Emergency Room around the age of 7 months old, his asthma attacks have sent us to many late night visits to ER and doctor's office. He is fine this week and all pictures are taken while he is doing well.

I still remember my last post where I mention about 'no picture today' and Ben has recovered well in his last attack and his doctor has bumped up his daily dosage of pulmicort. His asthma attacks usually come after a cold but his last one seemed to be triggered while visiting new place with new paint and dust. As a parent of asthmatic child, it has taken a toll on us but I never lose hope and faith that he will outgrow his asthma.
And I appreciate my sweetest Ben with or without his inhaler. He can be messy and a little brat at times but he is always the love and joy of my life. My daily favorite moment is holding him and kissing him on the back of his neck.

Life is much tougher than I had imagined while holding on to him in the first ER visit going through the pain in seeing all the procedures in helping him to get well. This post serves to honor my wife for her untiring caring of Ben on and off from hospital and outpatient care.

About

Why this Blog
Unlike my Hin's Tech Corner where I document my journey form p&s to dSLR and things that I have learned along the path in digital photography, this blog is my personal journal. All writings, photographs, and videos are my digital capture of special memories. This blog is a display of my love in photography and my family and you will certainly see my two lovely children and occasionally my beautiful wife in the blog. I love my family and part of the reason in starting this blog is to capture the special memories that I have with them in our daily lives. There are the negative moments in my daily struggles but hopefully my positive postings will overshadow those negative moments and make them unnoticed.

Camera gear

Digital Passions
My digital passions started around Halloween time of 2006 with my Casio when I was visiting mall with my family. That was about the same time that I started this Tech Corner blog. Later I became more interested in digital photography that I upgraded with 2nd p&s in Fuji F30 and I have subsequently upgraded with Pentax K100D and my lens assembly are on the inexpensive side.

Why Advertisement
I started this photo blog with intention to join the Yahoo Publishing Network (YPN) as I have been working for Yahoo as a software engineer in Data Warehouse and Yahoo Search that are related to advertisement. TechTheMan and HinTheMan are essentially my means to reinvent my interests into my work area. Believe it or not, I actually got rejected from YPN and I have turned around and use Google AdSense instead. Unlike my Tech Corner blog, I limit all advertisement to text base and have them as least intrusive as I can arrange them in this personal journal.

Subscription & Search
You are very welcome to subscribe to my blog page through the Subscribe section on sidebar.

In blog's sidebar titled "blog search" section, you can enter a keyword such as Picasa, Pentax, Fuji or Casio to search contents within the blog. A google web search is also available in sidebar after the Subscribe section.

How you can help
Blogging is both fun and time consuming.
As of the writing of this blog, there is little at all in terms of financial rewards through advertisement as a publisher. Having an audience whom I can share my learning and my pictures give me the most satisfaction. This blog is a journal of my learning path with digital photography. You can help me greatly by leaving comments in blog post for sharing, encouragement and corrections when necessary. Your comments and feedbacks are highly appreciated. It is priceless in the knowledge gained through studies, research, writing and sharing with you all in this blog.

Kids Having Fun

Picture taken with Pentax FA 50 f/1.4

Normally Ben won't go this far in tossing his dinner all over his head and toes. But with the support of his older brother laughing all the way and me holding my camera to capture the moments, he goes wild last night. It is much more fun in taking and viewing this photo than the clean up that I did after the dinner. I love Ben and Wes but there is the limit that I have to enforce them within boundaries of acceptance.

Dad and Mom

I have been wanting to have a blog post for my Dad and Mom. I have few pictures taken of my Dad and Mom while visiting home in beginning of this year. I went alone in the trip. I was sick throughout my entire visit and I was not enthusiastic in taking pictures in my stay at home. Though these pictures only show the back of my beloved Dad and Mom, I never thought about having them in my blog when I took them. But I am very glad to have few pictures of them.

I love my Dad and Mom and they are the most loving persons dedicated completely to their family and children. I have been truly blessed to have been raised up in a loving family with lots of fond memories with love and cheers. Dad and Mom are getting old and I forget to take a picture of the medicine box that my Dad is organizing every morning and late evening for all the medicines that he and my mom need to take daily. And I forget the exact count but it is a large number of boxes that my Dad have to keep them in two separate boxes bigger than a shoe box.

I am glad both the medicines and medical facilities in Macau have kept them very healthy and they manage to live an active life style. Though my Dad seldom holds the hands of my Mom, one can see the strong love and dedication in how they care for each other in daily routines as simple as my Dad organizing medicines for my Mom in the early morning and late evening.

Views To Garage

Our home has a detached garage and it is always a pleasant experience to walk home through our garage. Home gives us a sense of belonging and I am forever grateful for my home that offers us shelter and a place to bundle up for joy, rest and comforts. Sometime I come home late from work and I pass by those dimly lit light in my driveway and all I can think of is the thankful thoughts I have for my kids and wife safely kept in our beloved home few steps away from my garage.

The few pictures above offer different views of our garage. My photos can give the wrong impression of my garage being tidy. It is kind of a mess in reality. It has a second floor for storage and it has spoiled my family in keeping all the old cardboards of any household items from going from baby stroller to Dell computers that I purchase years ago.

Pictures were taken with Pentacon M42 50mm f/1.8 in the 1st photo, DA 50-200 in 2nd, 3rd and 4th, and last one was done with Takumar Asahi 28-80 Macro.
